DWP is looking into State Pension underpayments for some people

Updated: Sep 23, 2021

The DWP estimates that it has underpaid 134,000 pensioners over £1 billion in State Pension, according to a report from the National Audit Office (NAO). The Department is currently reviewing cases and is prioritising individuals who fall into “at risk” categories, such as those who are widowed or over age 80.

The DWP has said that individuals who are identified as having been underpaid State Pension do not need to contact them. The Department said it will contact those affected who will receive any arrears they are due.

As detailed assessments of each case need to be made, it will take time to identify all those affected. The Department recommends that anyone who believes they are being underpaid State Pension should in the first instance check their state pension eligibility.

If you want to read the full report it can be found on the NAO website.
