New holiday let rules proposed

Results of a consultation have been published which propose legislation which would mean that converting homes into short-term holiday lets would require planning permission. The government is also looking at whether to give owners flexibility to let out their home for up to a specified number of nights in a calendar year without the need for planning permission.

The Department for Culture Media and Sport has also launched a separate consultation on a new registration scheme for short-term lets to understand the effect short term lets have on certain communities and ultimately the ability of locals to find affordable housing.
