Following the well the publicised case of P&O ferries dismissing hundreds of staff, a new statutory Code on the Practice of dismissal and re-engagement, often on less favourable terms, has been published and is just awaiting Parliamentary approval. We understand this is likely to take effect this summer.
The Code will not affect genuine redundancies but will apply when an employer seeks to change an employee’s terms or re-engage them.
