Winter Fuel Payments: 9 June 2025 Announcement

Who is eligible?                                

All pensioners in England and Wales

What do I need to do?                  

Winter fuel payments will be issued automatically. There is no need to apply.

How much will I get?                      

The payments for 2025/26 will be £200, or £300 for those aged 80 or over.

Tax Implications:

If your income is over £35,000, your Winter Fuel Payment will be recovered later through HMRC via PAYE or Self Assessment.

Fraud Alert: Phishing Texts have already started to Circulate

There have been reports that scam messages are being sent out, falsely claiming that individuals must apply for an energy support grant worth £200–£300. These messages typically:

• Contain a link to click before a fake deadline

• Claim that failure to respond means losing entitlement

  
  

HMRC are stressing that no action or application is required as Winter fuel payments are to be processed automatically.  Therefore, anything containing a link should be considered a scam.
